National Arts Council
1) 2011 Office Move to Goodman Road and new shared facilities for hire and spaces for lease to arts groups, including Singapore writers and literary organisations!
The National Arts Council will be moving to the Goodman Arts Centre with effect from 17 January 2011. The Goodman Arts Centre, a pilot project of the new Framework for Arts Spaces, has been redeveloped to include new shared facilities for hire and spaces for lease to artists and arts groups. The relocation of NAC to the Arts Centre enables a closer working relationship with our arts and community stakeholders. Leveraging on the mix of the different communities in the locale, we hope to transform the Arts Centre into a lively, energetic place with a strong sense of community among artists, arts groups, arts enthusiasts, and the surrounding community. 2) NAC Scholarships 2011 are now open for application from 3 January 2011 onwards!

Literary Prizes
1) Kingslake Publishing Short Story Competition – Runs for twelve months until 30 April 2011

For unpublished writers across the English-speaking world, the writing competition is held monthly. Each month will have its own genre. The closing date for a genre is the last day of the month in which that genre appears. Each month the winner will receive a contract of agreement. The winner will be published and the book receive promotion and marketing along with all our other titles. There is no fee. Winners will have their books published and receive royalty payments. At the end of the twelve-month period all the twelve winners will be considered for the KINGLAKE UNPUBLISHED AUTHOR BOOK OF THE YEAR.
2) William Faulkner - William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition 2011 – Opens from 31 January 2011

A competitive talent search by the Pirate's Alley Faulkner Society, Inc (USA) open to all writing in English; the William Faulkner - William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition is for previously unpublished work. Entries are accepted in seven categories: Novel, Novella, Novel-in-Progress, Short Story, Essay, Poetry, and Short Story by a High School Student. Overall goals of the competition are to seek out new, talented writers and assist them in finding literary agents and, ultimately, publishers for their work.
3) Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition 2011 – Deadline: 1 May 2011

The literary competition is open to all U.S. and international writers whose fiction has not appeared in a nationally distributed publication with a circulation of 5,000 or more. Writers who have been published by an online magazine or who have self-published will be considered on an individual basis.
Short-term Literary Courses and Residencies Overseas
1) Creative Writing Workshop (In Mandarin) on 21-22 January 2011 – conducted by established Chinese author Yew Chin (You Jin)
By the National Book Development Council of Singapore (NBDCS), with the support of National Library Board (NLB) and Singapore Association of Writers. This workshop aims to broaden the participants’ powers of observation, imagination, and language skills. The main focus will be on developing skills through theme based activities which will help to boost the writer’s confidence and their ability to write and express themselves clearly and creatively. For aspiring writers - poets, novelists, screenplay writers and anyone interested in the art of writing and the usage of Chinese expressions. 2) Poetry and the Contemporary Conference (7-10 July 2011) – organised by Deakin University, Melbourne Australia
