*** PRISONS PROJECT ***

Dear Members:

It is here again. The Prison Project that we helped out last year. The officer in charge has given the confirmed dates & venues & format for this year’s Mother’s Day Celebration.

We need volunteers just like last year Volunteers can do it individually or in pairs.

The first slot: 27th May is taken

Each volunteer once having chosen the date, will then coordinate directly with the Officer I/C at the respective centres to work out rehearsal slot/slots (1or 2 sessions). ( I will get the contacts later)

Thank you & looking forward to hearing from all of you!

::Below is the information provided by the Officer i/c of the Project::

This year, as usual, different institutions are holding the Mother’s Day celebrations separately on different days from end May to end June, and the running of the event on the actual day will be managed by VWOs such as the Salvation Army and Centre for Fathering.

However instead of a reading programme, we will gather selected inmate participants to plan and put up a skit targeted at children. The skit should be entertaining for the children yet meaningful at the same time by bringing across a message. Some examples of meaningful messages are their commitment as parents, a message of forgiveness, expression of hope and preventive education.

This activity provides a channel for the inmates to showcase their talents, give back to their families and play their roles as fathers or mothers even while serving their imprisonment.

These skits could possibly be in the form of reading aloud from a storybook while other inmate participants put up some acting. One way that your society could be involved is to provide artistic direction and be involved in the inmates' rehearsals to provide pointers or even basic training if necessary.

The level of committment could possibly be two rehearsals of about two hours each per institution. There are a total of 11 institutions involved this year and we will be seeing 11 different skits. We should be able to plan the rehearsal dates to coincide with the availabilities of the volunteers. We can work out weekdays or Saturday rehearsal time–slots.

The dates of the actual event are confirmed as follows:
