Latest News - WISH Graduation 2009

On 10th January 2009, SRL held a ‘Graduation’ celebration event for 157 WISH graduates and their families and friends at the Bukit Merah Public Library.  These ladies have spent the last 2 years learning basic conversational English from our volunteers, every week, one-and-a-half hours each week.  We celebrate with them as they showcase their ability to speak and sing in English with confidence!  The Women Learning English (WISH)  programme is SRL’s community service project that started way back in the 1980s.  It is probably the only basic English conversation course in Singapore that our fellow Singaporean women can attend free of charge, and is run 100% by SRL volunteers in classrooms provided free of charge by the National Library Board and various Community Clubs!  Over the years, on average, some 300 – 400 ladies every year participate in the WISH programme every year.
